Learning to Play is Enjoyable, Rewarding, and Fun!

Serving San Francisco and the Entire East Bay

Instruction
Many people think that learning to play an instrument is too difficult and time consuming.  This is not always true.

With a little bit of effort, nearly anyone can enjoy playing within a reasonable amount of time.

Instructor Background: Teaching for over 25 years, Glenn has created a strong method to develop the playing and musicianship skills needed by today's professional musicians and hobbyists. Each student will explore many musical styles from classical to flamenco to jazz to blues. thus giving the student an understanding in the diversities in playing the guitar. Specific and in-depth study of one particular styles suggested after the student has learned the fundamentals.

Lesson Structure: Lessons are scheduled on a monthly basis. Prices vary depending on desired length of each class. Both half and full hour classes are available. Each class will be a review of the prior class, new material, proper practicing techniques, and making sure the student is continuing with forward progress. Each student is asked to practice a minimum of 30 minutes each day.

Lessons for beginners are not your typical guitar classes. You don't need to have musical experience to start playing immediately. You will learn the rudiments of reading music, notes below the fifth fret for all six strings, and open positions chords. You'll learn techniques through the music of various contemporary and traditional artists.

For the advanced and continuing students, lessons are structured to meet their specific needs for that style with a greater in-depth approach. All students will study many different styles of music as well as music theory and how it is applied to the guitar.

Studio Locations: Glenn currently teaches in Pleasant Hill on Monday's, Tuesdays, & Thursdays. Other teaching locations include Danville Music in Danville on Fridays. Piedmont Piano Company in Oakland. Lessons are Available in San Francisco in the Financial District by special appointment. In addition Glenn also teaches at the College of Marin in Kentfield, where he is credited with starting and continuing a successful guitar program. Glenn is currently on a sabbatical at the College of Marin.

Supplemental Study Tools: My goal is to provide a comfortable learning environment and the right guidance in instruction. Some of the learning tools used in addition to the traditional sheet music are recordings made for specific and general studies. This includes everything from basics of getting started, to exercises, songs, to play along material for rhythm and improvisation studies. also available are videos to assist when more than audio is needed. All of these productions, both audio and video, are professionally created and produced in house and are made for general instruction as well as custom.

Performance & Recording: All students are encouraged to participate at recitals scheduled throughout the year. The opportunity for students to record and produce a small CD of their work is also offered twice a year. This is a project for all age and playing levels. The student is given their own CD to keep and/or pass along to friends and family. This makes a good keepsake and a great gift idea.

Group Classes: In addition to private instruction, Glenn offers group courses through various cities and organizations. Designed to give the student quick and solid start to playing and prepare you for further studies. Courses available are Beginning Acoustic Guitar, Beginning & Intermediate Classical & Flamenco, Beginning and Intermediate Blues, Jazz & Latin Guitar, Beginning Folk and Finger Picking. Courses are currently offered through the  Mt. Diablo Unified School District. through the cities of Lafayette, Oakland. Inquiry for upcoming group classes.
